Better the Blog you know

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

For many years I used Radio Userland as a locally installed blog publishing tool, a little later moved onto web based MovableType, and have played along the way with Drupal and more recently WordPress. Each of them has their strengths and weaknesses, and you could spend an eternity reviewing the rest of the global solutions in detail, but for me the act of blogging is a simple matter of writing a few paragraphs with very little decoration, a couple of links, a title and some keywords.

And that’s it!!!

I dont want a generalised content management system, I dont need wiki features (I have a simple wiki I’m quite happy with), I dont join as many conversations as I should so track-back and flash web service enabled interfaces are just plain wasted on me. All I want is a blog that can be easy to manage. Thus I ended up installing WordPress. I’m not suggesting WordPress is “simple”, its just that you can use it in a less complicated way quite happily without all the bells and whistles.

Better the BlogĀ  you know I say :-)
